Hello! Please indulge me as I share a few pictures from the booksigning of my indie published picture book, ANNIE'S PLAID SHIRT! Themes include gender norms, individuality, and self-esteem. At the event, my mom gave me a heartfelt introduction:
During my speech, I discussed how I got started in this crazy business of writing and publishing. Being a part of the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators (SCBWI) and leading my own SCBWI critique group has had a major impact on my life. I also described how I came to the decision to independently publish this special book, and I explained some of the process. I wanted the book to be of extremely high quality, so the publishing process was lengthier and more complex than some other ways to self-publish. My company, Upswing Press, is the publisher. But I had a TON of help from book producer, Book Bridge Press.
The beautiful watercolor paintings in ANNIE'S PLAID SHIRT are by illustrator Rachael Balsaitis! I read a few pages to the crowd, and apparently, I cracked myself up. I hope other people were laughing, too.
Besides loving the story line of a girl who is determined to stay true to herself, I love the colors in the book!
The facial expressions in the art are wonderful!
And, of course, I enjoyed signing books! Wearing plaid was encouraged!
Thanks for checking out my pix! If you didn't see it in my prior post, click below to see a fun trailer of ANNIE'S PLAID SHIRT:
